Commerce

The Department of Commerce came into existence in the year  1981,  when the institution was a Junior College.  It added B.Com course in the year 1995 and became the first Post Graduate Department of the college in the year 1998 with the start of M Com course. Later in 2009, the Department was upgraded to the status of  Research Centre in Commerce affiliated to M.G. University.  At present, six research guides and fifty research scholars are associated with this centre, in addition, the Centre is extending  Data Analysis services to home and external scholars.  Till date  Ph. D has been awarded to seven research scholars, through this centre.  One Minor Project and a Major Project funded by UGC  is currently  undertaken by the department.  The department offers an Add-on course on computerised accounting – Tally ERP 0.9 funded by UGC. The Department has been maintaining excellent academic records since its very inception. When upgraded to UG (B Com degree), it has landmark achievements from 2001   onwards with hundred per cent result  and Ranks at University level. The academic performance of the P. G. ( M Com) students are also commendable. Majority of our alumnae are well placed around the world or are pursuing higher education in prestigious institutions.  The students of our Department excel in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities with many achievements in inter-collegiate competitions for various years. The  department maintains an excellent library with around 3000 books for students and faculty and also extends e-library services. To mark the merit, the department is organising three competitions per year,  “Commerce Colloquy” – a State level intercollegiate competition for commerce students since 2002, “ Junior Colloquy” for higher secondary students from 2008, and a research oriented national level  “Paper Presentation Competition” from 2014. The Commerce Association has an annual publication – “The Commerce Update” from 2000 onwards, which highlights the changes in financial, management, marketing and technological fields.  To promote academic excellence of students and faculty, the department regularly organise seminars on various topics and other academic programmes. The Department  subscribes 12 Journals which are accessible to students, research scholars and faculty. KEGEES JOURNAL OF SOCIAL SCIENCE is a biannual research publication of the department having ISSN and RNI registration.
