CLASS ON LOVE AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Man is a social being .Being a part of society we all have our own responsibilities towards society. The fulfilment of these responsibilities makes our life successful. Thus with the intention of creating society loving responsible and successful. Commerce Association has conducted a class on ‘Love and Social Responsibility’ on 7th June 2017 Mr. Alan Alexander, MPhil Bangalore an alumni of KG College Pampady addressed the gathering. He highlighted the importance of being socially responsible.
ADHAR PAN LINKING
On considering the Government’s policy of compulsory linking of AADHAAR with PAN card, Commerce Association conducted on extension program. Arrangements were made in Sahrudaya library hall, Kuttickal to help people in getting linked their Aadhar cards with pan card. The facility was made available to the people in the nearby areas on 10th June 2017 .On 28th June 2017 the same program was held at Pampady Public library due to the increased need of people in the locality . People were informed earlier about the facility being provided. Around 200 people came and utilized the facility. Students from Commerce department made necessary arrangements for the program.
VISITING ORPHANAGE
PG students of the department along with Prof.Vipin K Varghese visited Navajeevan Trust on 26th June 2017. They shared their time with the members of the trust and contributed a part of their savings for the welfare activities of the trust.
AYURVEDA MEDICAL CAMP
KG College Commerce Association along with Nattakom Government Ayurveda Hospital conducted an Ayurveda Medical Camp in Pallikkunu colony of Manthuruthi Panchayat, Pampady as an extension program on 27 nth June 2017. A medical team from Nattakom Government Hospital provided their services to the people of the colony. Necessary medicines were distributed free of cost to the needy ones. Dr.Sudeesh Kumar S and Dr.Anjali addressed the people by giving an overview on various epidemic diseases of the season and their preventive measures .Prof. Dr. Roy Mathew Vettoor, presided over the inaugural session of the camp and Alen Varghese, Secretary delivered the vote of thanks.
AWARENESS ON EPIDEMIC DISEASES
Dr.Sudeesh Kumar S, of Government Ayurveda Hospital, Nattakom lead an awareness class on the spreading epidemics on 27nth June 2017 at MEK centre of the college .He highlighted the importance of adopting various measures to prevent the spreading of such diseases.
INTERACTION WITH JENU DEVAN IAS
A session on “Civil Service – a better opportunity” was held on 27nth June 2017. Mr.Jenu Devan IAS an alumnus of Commerce department addressed the gathering. He gave students an idea about the Civil service exams and the various opportunities available. Dr.Sherly Kurian presided the session and Prof.Dr.Roy Mathew Vettoor proposed the vote of thanks.
AWARENESS CLASS ON FIRST AID
Realizing the need and importance of awareness on First Aid among youngsters Commerce Association organized a class on first aid on 28th June 2017. Mrs. Susan Babu Kuriakose, Rashid Hospital Dubai, lead the class.
CONSTAR 2K17
On 30th June 2017 Commerce Association conducted “Constar 2k17”, a quiz competition and an exhibition of charts on the topic Goods and Service Tax as part of the GST Utsav. Charts with valuable information relating to the new tax system were exhibited in the open stage of the college and during the interval hours students were allowed to write down the answers to various questions of different segments and winners were selected from the lucky dip box.
GST UTSAV
1st July 2017 was a landmark to the history of India as our country was switching to a new tax regime from that midnight. In order to give awareness and knowledge about the new tax system, Commerce Association conducted a program titled “GST UTSAV” on 30th June 2017.
Prof. Dr.Mini Joseph welcomed the gathering. Dr.Sherly Kurian presided over the function. K Arunkumar, President- Urban Bank Kottayam inaugurated the function. He highlighted the various job opportunities that will be available to students with the imposition of GST, in his inaugural address. Mr. Madhukuttan Pillai, CA and fellow member of International Association of Accounting Professionals, London took an informative session on the impacts of GST in our country. It was a truly motivating and interesting session. The seminar was really fruitful to the students as they got an opportunity to update themselves with the new tax policy.
AWARENESS CLASS ON INSURANCE SECTOR
An awareness class on Insurance sector was organized by the association on 21st July 2017.
COMMERCE ASSOCIATION INAUGURATION
Inauguration of the Commerce Association 2017-18 together with the valedictory of “Vajra Keralam Platinum India” program was held on 7nth August 2017 from 1:30 pm in MEK Media Centre of the college. Dr.Sherly Kurian gave the welcome speech. HG Dr Yuhanon Mar Diacorus, Metropolitan Of Kottayam diocese and Secretary of the Holy Episcopal Synod Malankara Orthodox Church presided over the function. Prof.P J Kurian, Honorable Deputy Chairman Rajya Sabha inaugurated the activities of Commerce Association 2017-18. Very Rev EK George Corepiscopa, Governing Board Member also felicitated the function. Dr. Mini Joseph proposed the vote of thanks to the dignitaries and the program came to an end at 5pm.
YOUTH WEEK
On behalf of the International Youth Day on 12th August, the Association organized a week length program titled “YOUTH WEEK” from August 7 to 12th.
Day 1 (August 7)
The official inauguration of the YOUTH WEEK celebrations of the Association held at the open court with a flash mob accompanied with the logo launch. Dr.Sherly Kurien addressed the audience by stating the importance of youth in our society. The presence of Dr.Mini Joseph and other faculty members added colors to the event.
Day2 (August 8)
A poster presentation regarding the topic “youth and corruption” were organized in the open stage.
Day3 (August 9)
DEXTRA – an Intra Collegiate commerce fest was conducted on 9nth August 2107 by the Commerce Association. The fest was organized as part of the Youth week celebrations. Three events, Brain Waves, Ghankaar and Gusto were conducted. All the departments of the college actively participated in the fest and Economics department won the overall champion trophy and Physics department became the runners up.
Day 4 (August 10)
Class on Law and Life
Awareness of law and order, their practice and follow up will result a healthy and peaceful social life. Considering the fact a class on law and life was arranged by the Association on 10nth August 2017.
Sri. T Sreejit, Sub Inspector of Police, Pampady led the session. The class was informative as well as interactive. The Association in Charge Prof.Aleyamma George gifted a memento to the Chief Guest as a token of gratitude and Mr.Aby Paul, convener, proposed the vote of thanks.
Day 5 (August 11)
A poster exhibition regarding the topic “youth and drugs” were held on the College open stage and an inter class competition for the students of the departments were held on afternoon. The valedictory meeting of the Youth Week celebrations was also held after that. Dr.Mini Joseph presided the function and Aby Paul proposed the vote of thanks.
COMMERCE ASSOCIATION 2016-17
The activities of the P.G Department of Commerce are spearheaded by the Commerce Association of each year. The association has each and every student of the department as its active members. The association is led by a body consisting of Association Secretary, Joint-Secretary and the prefects of each class under the guidance of Head of the Department, Association-in-charge teacher and other teachers of the department. The association plays an important role in making the department a front runner, in and out of the college.

ASSOCIATION INAUGURATION
The inauguration of commerce association activities for the academic year 2016-17 was conducted proudly with the presence of a very renowned personality Shri. Abu Mathen George, IFS on 25th August 2016. His talk on “Digital Diplomacy” gave innovative ideas to the students regarding civil service.
PROGRAMMES CONDUCTED DURING THE YEAR
The Commerce Association has organized various programmes for the welfare of the students as well as others. The activities of the association during the academic year 2016-17 are given below.
With the intention of creating consciousness about our legal culture among youngsters, our association has put forward an initiative to it by organizing a session on youth and law on 4th July 2016. Hon. Additional District Judge Ms. V.S. Bindhu Kumari addressed the gathering. The meeting was presided over by Hon. Chief Judicial Magistrate Ms. P. Jyothis Ben. She highlighted the various laws relating to the youth and highlighted the impact of the same.
On 7th November 2016, an awareness seminar on GST (Goods and Service Tax) was organized for students to keep them updated with the new tax policy which is going to be implemented in the near future. Vice Chairman of ICAI, Kottayam branch Shri. P. Anil held a session on the revolutionary change in the tax system GST, its features, concepts, merits and demerits. Students were given an opportunity to interact with the speaker for clarifying their doubts.
The association organized analysis of union budget 2017-18 on 17th February 2017. Mr. Arun Joseph, Senior Manager, Third Party Products & Inditrade Capital Ltd. analysed the budget.
Dr. N Jayraj, Hon. MLA of Kanjirapally Constituency enlightened the audience with this year’s Kerala budget analysis on 29th July 2016. He analysed the budget from the view of different sectors.
CAREER ORIENTED PROGRAMMES
Commerce Association organized various career oriented programmes for the students by joining hands with various Career Guidance Institutions. Experts from various institutions like TIME, Logic Institute of management, I-Gem, G Tech and Globesta took classes, conducted mock tests and interviews and had group discussion sessions for imparting soft skills in the students.
Commerce association hosted 2 vibrant programmes for the research scholars and guides.
A Seminar on Plagiarism in thesis and journal articles was conducted on 25th June 2016 for the research scholars of K.G. College and other colleges. Classes were taken by Mr. Jasimudeen S, Librarian of St.Stephens College, Uzhavoor.
An interactive session on plagiarism in thesis and journal articles was held among the research scholars and guides. 45 research scholars and guides participated in the seminar and made the event a grand success.
“One Day Workshop on Mendeley” was conducted for the research scholars and guides by the department in association with Kerala Library Association of Kottayam Region on 30th July 2016. Kerala Library Association President Mr. Tomy Joseph inaugurated the meeting. Hands on training was given by the technical assistants of M.G. University library Mr. Vimal Kumar V and Mrs. Savithri T K. Mr. A inter-active session was taken by Mr.Jasimudeen S, Librarian of St.Stephens College, Uzhavoor.
Commerce association conducted an awareness programme on the most innovative fiscal policy at present “The Goods & Service Tax”, a tax based on consumption. Shri. Anil Gopinath, Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Tax Department and Shri. P. Anil, Vice Chairman of ICAI, Kottayam Branch delivered talks on GST. KVVES, Pampady Unit President Shri. Georgekutty M George and Secretary Shri. Shaji P Mathew congratulated the association and stated the program was of due importance for their future as they got an overall picture of GST and its impacts.
National Paper Presentation Competition, the inter-collegiate competition for PG students, on the topic “Winds of Change : 25 Years of Economic Reforms in India” was conducted on November 30, 2016. The department instituted the trophy in the name of our former Principal, Dr. M.E.Kuriakose as a token of love and respect.
This year “Dr. M.E Kuriakose Ever-rolling Trophy” was won by St. Dominics College, Kanjirapally. Consolation prizes were awarded to Baselius College, Kottayam and Kristu jyothi College of Management and Technology.
Commerce Colloquy Senior version16, the mega inter collegiate commerce fest, was conducted on 4th Feb 2017. Principal Dr. Sherly Kurian inaugurated the fest. 160 students from 25 colleges participated in the fest. The competition events were quiz, duet, online photography, dubsmash, treasure hunt, best management team and dance.
SB College Chanaganserry was crowned the overall championship of ver.16 of senior colloquy. CMS College, Kottayam and Kristu Jyothi College, Changanaserry were the Runners up. Prize worth 51 K was distributed among the winners.
Commerce Colloquy Junior 2K16 version 8, the mega inter-school commerce fest for commerce students of higher secondary schools, was conducted on 26th November 2016. The events conducted were marketing game, duet, quiz, creative trio and penalty shootout. The title winners of Commerce Colloquy Junior ver.8 were Good Shepherd Public School, Thengana and they were presented the ever-rolling trophy.
Reminiscence 2K16, the annual alumini meet held on 15th August 2016 witnessed the most cherished moments when the aluminies brought back fond memories of yester years. More than 100 members participated in the programme. Prof. Rajan George Panicker, Prof. Rachel Punnoose, and many other former staff members addressed the gathering.
The association organized a freshers’ day on 23rd August 2016, to welcome the juniors. Various programmes and competitions were organized for the juniors.
Study tours were conducted for the outgoing B.Com and M.Com students. B.Com students enjoyed a three day trip to Mysore, Coorg and Wayanad. M.Com students had a wonderful time in house boat and Alappuzha beach.
The association set up a snacks stall as part of Sports Carnival. The students had a real-time experience of the accounting they have learnt in classes.
The students actively participated in various programmes organized by the college as part of Onam celebration. Our students won prizes in different competitions conducted on that day.
Christmas was celebrated with cakes and decorations in the classes. The head of the department, Dr. Mini Joseph gave the Christmas message.
Finishing workshop will be held on 7th March 2017 for the outgoing B.Com and M.Com students to improve the employability of students. Mock tests, interviews and group discussions will be conducted. The workshop is conducted by Dr. Francis Kuriakose, Adjunct Professor, National Law Institute, Bangalore.
Commerce day is an inter-class competition of our commerce stream planned to be held on 13th March 2017. It is meant to promote the talents of our students. Various competitions like quiz, duet, management team and best commerce class will be conducted.
The valedictory function of the commerce association is expected to held on 13th March, 2017.
Students of D2 and M1 will be giving farewell to the outgoing seniors in the second week of March. Programmes will be there to make the day a memorable one.
COLLEGE LEVEL EVENTS
Students of Commerce association actively participated in the annual sports meet 2k17 KG College which was held on February 9th and 10th, 2017. We, the commerce students have proved ourselves to be the best in the academics, extracurricular activities and also in sports, inspite of the hot burning sun. The team spirit of our students was the major factor for the success of the college sports day. Our team was named ‘Red Rivals’.
The commerce students as in the history, exhibited their artistic and creative talents in different events and won prizes in the arts fest of KG college Samanvaya 2016-17 held on January 10th and 11th of 2017.
